What to do if you get the “Port 80 in use by "system"!” error on starting up the XAMPP control panel?

8:40:19 AM  [Apache] Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
8:40:19 AM  [Apache] You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
8:40:19 AM  [Apache] or reconfigure Apache to listen on a different port

  1. Go to Run prompt i.e. Start>>Run or Search Programs and Files edit box.
  2. Type “Services.msc” over there and press enter key.
  3. Search for “World Wide Web Publishing Service” service.
  4. Check if the Service is showing Status as “Started”.
  5. Right click over there i.e. on service itself.
  6. Click on Stop and let the service be stopped.
  7. Go to XAMPP control panel and click on Quit button.
  8. Open the xampp-control
  9. Problem is solved for "Port 80 in use by "system"! "and you will see the following message.

  2. Good Explanation to resolve issue on "PORT 80 IN USE BY SYSTEM" though skype and application may also occupy those port so use can configure other application's port as well.
